Back by popular demand, the Pega Community Hackathon is back for 2021. This Hackathon is your chance to help simplify complex processes by bridging the gap between business and IT.

Event details

For over 35 years, developers have used Pega to crush complexity by solving complex problems and powering the largest enterprises in the world.  In our 2021 Pega Community Hackathon, we're asking for your help in building Pega applications that help bridge the gap between business and IT in the following categories: 

  • Bridge the gap between distributed people and systems
  • Accelerate assistance and service to those in need
  • Adapt quickly to new challenges and circumstances

Your invitation to participate is both a challenge and an opportunity: show off your innovation, creativity, & skills in a digital hackathon building with Pega focused on innovation and inspiration!

Participants have 6 weeks to hack - from March 1 to April 9 - the final product can be an application, a component, an integration, or other - so long as it is centered around the Pega Platform.  Submit your end result with a short video showing it off for your chance to win over $13,000 in prizes PLUS the opportunity to have your winning app prominently featured on Pega Community and in our new Pega Developer Podcast series.

Request a free Pega Community Edition environment for the Hackathon by visiting this website. Be sure you are logged into your Pega account and that you add your team when signing up. Your system will be available for 60 days after you sign up but it will power down when inactive. You and all team members you enter at sign-up can access your Hackathon system at My Trials and can always power it up there when you’re ready to hack!

To assist with the application building process during the Hackathon, we're pleased to be launching Pega Express Month - a full calendar of TechTalks, Ask the Expert sessions and blog posts focused on Pega Express that will help take your knowledge of Pega to the next level.

The Pega Express approach is the fastest way to get value out of your applications without sacrificing the outcomes your application needs to achieve! 

Here's what's in store throughout the months of March and April:

The Discover Phase

Innovate to understand your desired outcomes, define your Minimum Lovable Product and get ready to start your project.

March 8-15
The Prepare Phase

Design your solution and create your product backlog using Pega’s best practices, establish governance and enable your team.

March 15-April 5
The Build Phase

Use our platform to iteratively configure and test your application. Apply Scrum combined with our out of the box tools and best practices, built into the Pega Platform, to achieve your outcomes.

April 5-12
The Adopt Phase

Get your application ready for production, ready the business, transition to business as usual, analyze the application's performance and plan your next Minimum Lovable Product release.

In light of the changing circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak, those organizations and the world at large needed digital transformation innovators and leaders to help:


● Bridge the gap between distributed people and systems
● Accelerate assistance and service to those in need
● Adapt quickly to new challenges and circumstances

We searched for digital transformation innovators and wanted to see how they could use Pega to innovate and give back. So we posed both a challenge and an opportunity: show off your innovation, creativity, & skills in a 6 week digital hackathon building with Pega focused on innovation and inspiration.

Description: An omni-channel web platform built on Pega 8.4 that sources new volunteering opportunities, connects your employees with opportunities, helps them grow their skill sets and rewards them.

Runner Up

Given to the component or application with the 2nd highest combined judging score.

Given to the component or application focused on addressing new problems businesses are facing brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak and the new nature of distributed work.

Winner: Document generation via REST API (DAPI GEN v1.1)

Description: Generate documents with merge data from any application using a REST API with JSON, built on Pega Platform 8.4.

Inspiration Award

Given to the component or application addressing new worldwide problems brought on by the COVID-19 outbreak (public health, economic, etc.).
