Changing the type of a field

Updated on April 5, 2022

To store data in a different format, change the type of a field.

  1. In the navigation pane of App Studio, click Data.

  2. Click Data objects and integrations.

  3. Click the data object that defines the field.

  4. On the Data model tab, click the row of the field that you want to update.

  5. In the Type column, click Change, and then select a field type.

  6. Click Save.

Result: If any rules use the field that you want to change, a message is displayed. Click the link in the message to determine if any of these rules fail after the type is changed.
Note: If you do not have access to Dev Studio, this link is disabled.

When changing a field type, if you experience a validation issue, perform one of the following actions:

  • Resolve the validation issue by following the instructions in the error message. For more information, see Troubleshooting field errors.
  • If you are unable to troubleshoot the validation issue, delete the existing field, and then add a new field that is configured with the type that you want.
