Changing business rules in the Decision Manager portal

Updated on September 10, 2021

Changing business rules in the Decision Manager portal is a part of the revision management cycle in the Pega 7 Platform. Revision management involves a revision manager who initiates the change and a strategy designer who implements it. The revision manager can log in to the Decision Manager portal and create a revision after the system architect creates an application overlay.

Before you continue, read this introductory article: Revision management of decisioning rules on the Pega 7 Platform.

Prerequisites

  • Ask a system architect to create an application overlay and specify a set of rules that you want to change. You must know the application overlay name and the default access groups that the system architect created. This tutorial uses as an example the DMSmpOv application overlay that is built on the DMSample application. For more information, see Application overlays.

Implementing changes to business rules

Changes in the configuration of a decisioning application are made by using a revision. Each revision is a case that consists of one or more subcases that are called change requests. The business user responsible for modifying business rules is a strategy designer who is assigned the change requests.

  1. Log in to the Decision Manager portal as an operator who belongs to the <application overlay name>:Revision Manager access group. In this example, the access group is RevisionManager.Revision Manager operator

  2. Create a revision by clicking New revision.
    1. Specify revision details and click Continue. When you create a revision, a change request is automatically created.
    2. Select rule instances to include in the change request.
    3. In the Change request section, click Edit, and assign the change request to the Strategy Designer operator.
    4. Click Submit.
  3. Log in to the Decision Manager portal as an operator who belongs to the <application overlay name>:Strategy Designer access group. In this example, the access group is StrategyDesigner.
    1. Open the change request that was assigned to you.
    2. Implement changes to the rule instances that are included in the change request.

The scope of changes depends on the rules instances that are included in the change request. For example, the strategy designer might need to update decision tables, modify strategies and data flows, or add new rule instances.
    3. Click Submit to send the change request to the revision manager for approval.
  4. Log in to the Decision Manager portal as an operator who belongs to the <application overlay name>:Revision Manager access group. In this example, the access group is RevisionManager.
    1. Open the change request that was assigned to you.
    2. Review the changes to the business rules, and click Approve.
    3. Open the revision and click Submit to package it.
    4. In the Overview tab, download the revision package.
  5. Deploy changes to the business rules. For more information, see Importing revisions.
