Ethoca Alerts integration

Updated on February 9, 2022

Pega Smart Dispute for Issuers evaluates whether a consumer billing issue should be submitted to Ethoca Alerts by invoking the Merchant Lookup API, which verifies if the merchant is participating with Ethoca.

The Ethoca Alerts platform provides issuers the ability to send Confirmed Fraud (CF) or Customer Dispute (CD) transactions for dispute resolution. Once these transactions are processed, Ethoca sends them out as alerts to the respective merchants. The API supports both types of transactions identified as either Fraud or Dispute.

The Ethoca REST API framework is designed to support the asynchronous processing of transactions. As a result, for individual transactions, alert statuses become available immediately, regardless of whether the whole batch has finished receiving merchant outcomes.

Pega Smart Dispute for Issuers sends the disputed transaction, or a batch of transactions, to Ethoca by using the designated API endpoint. The response includes a Batch ID. Ethoca processes the submitted transactions and generates alerts where possible. The alert generation statuses, such as success or failure, and other associated details (for example, the Alert ID) are captured and stored at the same time for subsequent retrieval by Pega Smart Dispute for Issuers.

Depending on the enabled options, the following methods of fetching the alert outcomes are available:

  • An SLA timer polls Ethoca Alerts at predetermined intervals to check for a merchant outcome or refund status.
  • When all the batch-submitted transactions are processed, the Ethoca Alerts API posts an event notification to the Call Back service endpoint exposed by Pega Smart Dispute for Issuers. The notification includes the URL to fetch the results. Event notifications for alerts are only sent once, unless the merchants update the results of the provided merchant outcomes again.
