How to implement dynamic class reporting
Summary
Driving rule reuse is a cornerstone behind the creation of framework-based applications. Reports can now be configured to dynamically display work object data for an implementation when defined at the framework level by selecting a check box on the report rule.
Available for both List View and Summary View reports, this feature eliminates the need to copy existing reports from a framework class to display work object data at the implementation level. It dramatically reduces the number of new rules required when you build an implementation layer.
It is extremely useful when the implementation displays embedded reports in the user interface to process work requiring you to copy multiple rules in addition to reports and reset the parameter values.
Suggested Approach
This feature is enabled on List View and Summary View rule forms. It cannot be configured using the Report Wizard.
To configure the report:
- Click the Content tab of a list view or summary view rule with a framework class as the Applies-To class.
- In the Report Source section, check the Report on Descendant Class Instances box.
Configuration tips:
- When you create new reports, if they are reusable by the implementation layer, create them in the framework layer and select the check box.
- If you have multiple implementation layers and they reside in rulesets that you have access to, the report will default back to the framework level. However, if only one of those implementation rulesets is in your ruleset list, the system will dynamically reference the implementation layer.
- To determine the Work-class used in a report execution you can:
- Use the Tracer tool
- Right-click the report display, select View Source from the context menu. Press SHIFT+F and search for the text fragment ViewClass.
