Applying a patch in-place
Apply a patch in-place on systems that do not require minimal downtime.
The in-place patch process involves system downtime, which means you cannot use the system while you apply the patch; for information about the zero-downtime patch process in which you can continue to use the system during the patching process, see Patching systems without downtime (Pega 8.4 and later) .
Performing an in-place patch can be summarized in the following steps:
- Shut down the system.
- Patch the rules schema. For details, see Patch methods for the rules schema.
- Restart the system to complete the patch .

Use either the Installation and Upgrade Assistant or a command-line tool to patch the rules schema in-place.
