Upgrading Pega's Supporting Services

Pega Infinity™ supports the following tools, utilities, and services.  NOTE:  Some of these services replace legacy versions of that functionality.  For a list of legacy products, please see Deprecating your Legacy Products.

Agile Studio

Agile Studio is an agile project management system which enables your application development teams and your stakeholders to execute your projects using the industry best-practice Scrum methodology.

Follow the process outlined in the Upgrade Guides on the Agile Studio page in Pega Community. 

Be sure to test your Agile Studio application with your existing data, to ensure that the data works well with the current version of Agile Studio on Pega Cloud.

Business Intelligence Exchange (BIX)

Business Intelligence Exchange (BIX) integrates Pega Platform data with information from other systems of record, so organizations can extract Pega data and use it to create a broad view of their overall business.  All Pega Cloud Services environments require the use of a BIX agent that is installed and available on the utility node of your VPC.

BIX is the recommended way to process your business data in Pega Cloud Services.  All Pega Cloud clients will have BIX installed in their environments.   See Business Intelligence Exchange (BIX) for Pega Cloud Applications.

For on-premises installations of BIX, you can use BIX to define extract rules for any classes.  These may then be used to extract data from the Pega Platform database to either external files (in XML or comma-separated values format) or to another relational database.   See About Business Intelligence Exchange (BIX).

As explained in BIX in Pega Cloud Applications, direct access to the Pega Cloud Services server file system is not allowed, and BIX cannot be run from an external command-line process.  Since many on-premises Pega clients use the BIX CLI, which is not supported on Pega Cloud, you must update your BIX rules to use the BIX agent, which can obtain the extract files from the Pega SFTP server.  The extract files can also be sent to your SFTP site. 

Deployment Manager

Deployment Manager is a simple, intuitive, and ready-to-use DevOps Pega application. It leverages the Pegasystems® market-leading, case management technology and  automated orchestration engine. It enables you to build and run continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines in a model-driven manner and integrates seamlessly with Pega Platform.

A current version of Deployment Manager is automatically provided as part of all Pega Cloud Services environments.   As part of your migration, you will set up Deployment Manager in your new Pega Cloud environment, with new “pipelines” to migrate and track applications there. 

Pega Predictive Diagnostic Cloud (PDC)

Pega Predictive Diagnostic Cloud™ (PDC) provides you with functionality for closely monitoring and precisely assessing your Pega Platform performance. The data that PDC presents gives you an in-depth view of various issues and events in the system, which increases your control over the way Pega Platform operates, and helps you eliminate errors.  

Pega PDC is provided as part of all Pega Cloud Services environments.  As part of your migration, Pega will set up PDC to monitor and track your new Pega Cloud environments.  See Pega Predictive Diagnostic Cloud.

Pega Web Mashup

Pega Web Mashup enables you to embed a Pega application as a gadget on a web page. 

Pega Web Mashup runs on Pega Cloud Services, and replaces Internet Application Composer (IAC). See Tutorial: Creating a mashup with Pega Web Mashup.

Connecting Pega Chat and Pega Co-Browse to the Collaboration Services Cloud

In older versions of Pega Chat and Pega Co-Browse, Pega supported these products using an on-premise installation.  However, for the newer versions of Chat and Co-Browse, Pega strongly recommends that you connect to the Collaboration Services Cloud.  For additional details, see Pega Cloud Collaboration Services and then contact your Pega representative.

Note that the Collaborative Services Cloud is a separate cloud from Pega Cloud Services.  Chat and Co-Browse connect to applications such as Pega Customer Service at the application level, not at the cloud level; therefore, Collaboration Services are not directly part of the migration to Pega Cloud Services.

Deprecating your legacy products

The following old versions of Pega products have been deprecated, and are no longer supported in Pega Infinity™. 


The Project Management Framework (PMF) was an application used to track and manage your application development projects. 

Beginning with Pega Platform version 7.3, this product was deprecated; Pega Platform project management is now handled by Agile Studio. 

Required action: If you are using PMF, you can use the latest version of Agile Studio on Pega Cloud as described in the Agile Studio section above.

Decision Strategy Manager (DSM)

Clients who purchased PRPC 6.2 or Pega 7.1 may also have purchased the Decision Strategy Manager application, containing “PegaDM” RuleSets.  These RuleSets became part of the base Pega Platform application as of Version 7.2 or later.

Required action:  No action required.  Clients who have DSM as a separate product will automatically receive that functionality after they migrate to Pega Cloud. 

Autonomic Event Services (AES)

Autonomic Event Services (AES) was an optional product that automatically monitored, retrieved, organized and displayed Pega 7 Platform system statistics and warning conditions at the enterprise, cluster, and node levels.

In the latest versions of Pega Platform, this functionality is now handled by Pega Predictive Diagnostic Cloud (PDC). 

Required action:  No action required.  Your Pega Cloud Services environment will include Pega PDC; AES is not supported in Pega Cloud environments.

System Management Application (SMA)

The System Management Application was a tool included with Pega Platform that allowed system administrators to monitor and manage Pega Platform nodes deployed on one or more application servers.  SMA gave administrators the ability to do many tasks, including managing:

  • Requestors
  • Listeners
  • Agents
  • Requestor pools

In Pega 7.4, this functionality was moved to the Designer Studio, and SMA was deprecated. 

Required action:  No action required.  SMA functionality is available through the Admin Studio; SMA is not supported in Pega Cloud Services environments.

Internet Application Composer (IAC)

The Internet Application Composer (IAC) let you embed a Pega Platform application such as a gadget on a Web Application.  

  • For PRPC 6.2 and later, the Internet Application Composer (IAC) ruleset, Pega-IAC, was included with the base PRPC rules when your system was installed; the rules did not need to be imported separately.
  • Beginning in Pega 7, Pega introduced the Pega Web Mashup for Pega 7.  At that time, the “Pega-IAC” RuleSet was still required.
  • For Pega 7.2.1 and later, there is no longer any requirement to add the Pega-IAC ruleset to your application.
  • Also prior to Pega 7.2.1, Pega Web Mashup required the Gateway servlet.  For Pega 7.2.1 and later, the Pega gadget can run in a different domain or different server and does not need the Gateway servlet.

Required action:  As part of your application migration, implement Pega Web Mashup to provide this functionality.   IAC is not supported in Pega Cloud Services environments.
