Upgrades

Use the Upgrades tab to initiate your upgrade journey, review the upgrade schedules of your environments, take required action during each stage of the process, and provide feedback to streamline and facilitate your upgrade journey.

This document works in tandem with How Pega Cloud keeps your environment current. Refer to this document for an overview of client requirements with My Pega Cloud during an upgrade.

Upgrade definitions

This documentation uses the following definitions for the upgrade journey and the Upgrade tab in My Pega Cloud

Source version
The Pega Platform version from which you are upgrading.
Target version-
The Pega Platform version to which you are upgrading.
Current state status bar-

A control that displays the present stage of your upgrade journey. The Upgrade tab changes depending on the stage in your upgrade journey.

The Initiate and Resolve stages occur automatically and are not displayed in the Upgrades tab during your upgrade journey.

  1. On the My Pega Cloud Home tab, in the Upgrades tile, initiate the upgrade process by clicking Start.

    You are redirected to My Support Portal.
  2. In My Support Portal, click New Request For something I need , and then specify a staging environment that you want Pega to clone and then upgrade.

    This request takes five days to complete. Make the request at least three weeks before your targeted production environment upgrade.
  3. Once Pega initiates your upgrade request, click the Upgrade tab.

    The process moves into the Clone stage.
  4. View the status of your cloned environment as Pega Cloud Services provisions and upgrades the clone in the Clone stage view.

    The checklist displays the status of your clone environment being provisioned, its infrastructure updated, and its Pega Platform version upgraded.

    Pega Cloud Services provisions and upgrades your clone environment for your upgrade application testing (UAT), and the upgrade process moves to the UAT stage.
  5. Within 10 business days, perform UAT on the cloned environments by testing all applications through automated and manual testing.

    The Action center banner in My Pega Cloud displays a link to your checklist with required UAT actions, as shown in the following example:

    1. In the UAT stage view, click the redirect icon for each clone environment (named <Environment Name>-CLONE) on which to perform UAT.

    2. Perform UAT testing as described in Stage 3: Accept the Basic upgrade of your production environment in Pega Cloud Services upgrade checklist for Pega Infinity release 8.4.2 and later.

  6. After completion of UAT testing, click UAT Checklist and Approve, and then enter your tentative schedule for the production upgrade, provide feedback, and check off the required testing and upgrade validation on the clone.

  7. In the Decision Taken list select whether you approve the testing on the clone environment for upgrade, and then click Submit.

    If you select Approve, the upgrade process moves into the Upgrades stage.
    If you select Reject, the upgrade case enters the Resolved status and stops. You can perform the upgrade another time.
  8. In the Upgrades stage view, verify that the Environment upgrade status table reflects the following status in the upgrades process:

    The columns in the table provide different information depending on the upgrade status:

    Not yet Scheduled
    Environment is not yet scheduled for upgrade.
    SCHEDULED
    Environment has been scheduled for a certain time.

    You can view the scheduled time for the upgrade in the MW start time column.

    The Target Pega Version column reflects the version to which the environment is to be upgraded.

    ONGOING
    The environment upgrade is in progress.
    ABORTED BY CUSTOMER
    You have aborted the upgraded by selecting Reject during the Go-NoGo action.
    COMPLETED
    The environment upgrade is completed.
  9. During the ONGOING status of your production environment upgrade, finalize your upgrade.

    In this stage, you receive an Action center notification to go to a temporary production URL for your upgraded environment, and a Go-NoGo link to proceed with the upgrade within the Upgrades tab.

    From the point of receiving the notification, you have 60 minutes to promote any necessary changes from the upgraded staging clone to the temporary production URL, as stated in the message deadline.

  10. In the Upgrades stage view, click the Go-NoGo button, as shown in the following example:

    The temporary URL is not displayed if you upgrade from a source version of 8.4.1 or earlier.

    1. Check off each required action of your confidence testing on your temporary production URL according to your requirements.

    2. Specify whether the confidence testing on the temporary production URL environment has met your approval for upgrade:

      • To continue with the rolling upgrade of the production environment, select Go, check Continue with immediate rolling upgrade, and then click Submit.

      • To stop the upgrade, select No Go. The Upgrade enters the ABORTED BY CUSTOMER status. You can reschedule the upgrade at a later time.
    The upgrade process continues until the Completed status. The upgrade process then moves to the Decommission stage view.
  11. After the completion of the upgrade process, the decommission of your clone is scheduled.

  12. After the decommission of the clone environment, the upgrade process enters the Resolve status.

    Your upgrade to the latest version of Pega Platform is successful.

    After the completion of your upgrade journey, you receive an Action center notification to provide Pega Cloud Services feedback about your experience.
