Improved upgrade for Pega Marketing running on Pega Cloud
The software upgrade process for Pega Marketing™ 8.1 and newer running on Pega Cloud shortens the upgrade time, reduces post-upgrade steps, and allows you to use many of your application features during the upgrade. Upgrades for Pega Cloud deployments are performed in the background, with minimal downtime for you and your team.
To make sure that all artifacts are updated, some features of your Pega Marketing applications running on Pega Cloud are not available while the upgrade runs. See the following topics for a detailed list of features that are disabled or postponed during an upgrade.

Campaigns runs, distribution tests, and clean-ups
To prevent campaigns from failing, you cannot run them while an upgrade is in progress. The Run action is disabled for multi-channel, outbound, and Field Marketing campaigns. You also cannot use the Next-Best-Action Designer to start a scheduled run while the upgrade runs.
The Distribution test action is disabled for multi-channel campaigns.
Campaign and campaign run clean-ups are postponed for all campaign types until after the upgrade is finished.
Agent changes to the rules schema
Pega Marketing agents, including the ProcessPaidMediaRuns agent that is used by the Paid Media Manager, do not make changes to the rules schema while an upgrade is in progress. Changes to the rules schema are instead queued to be processed after the upgrade is finished.
Paid Media configuration changes
Changes to Paid Media Manager configuration are disabled while the upgrade runs. Wait until the upgrade is finished to make any configuration changes.
You cannot import new prospects during an upgrade. The New button on the Prospects landing page is disabled.
You cannot import new Geofences during an upgrade. The Import link on the Geofences landing page is disabled.
