Troubleshooting: Blank window when starting Visio (Windows XP SP2)

When Process Commander developers run Windows XP SP2 on their workstations, they may see a blank screen when they try to launch Visio, followed by a popup window labeled "Microsoft Internet Explorer" which displays:

There was a problem switching to "Flow Edit" mode. Restore the "Form View" mode?

These errors are due to Windows XP Service Pack 2.  SP2 significantly tightened Internet security, which creates a number of issues for Process Commander Version 4.2.

To support a rich user interface experience, Process Commander uses ActiveX components.  Process Commander also employs VBA macros in Excel Import manager and Visio editor content.  These client components conduct HTTP communications with the Process Commander server. XP SP2 changes some behaviors in accessing results on HTTP requests, resulting in error conditions.

Additionally, under XP SP2, applications cannot be embedded into an HTML frame if this causes cross-domain security violations.  The V4.2 implementation launches a Visio session from a local Visio document (located in a temp folder) and tries to embed it into a remote server-based HTML frame, again causing errors.

Update: V4.2 Service Pack 2 (SmartBuild) fixes these issues.
