Story Board Scrum Team Wins First Pega UX Star Award

Updated on May 3, 2021

The first winner of Pega's UX Star Award goes to the Story Board scrum team for excellence in developing a new low-code mobile channel experience.

About The Award

At Pega, we believe that user experience is critical for every project. In 2020, Pega launched the UX Enablement Program, focused on UX and design excellence.  The UX Star Award, sponsored directly by CEO Alan Trefler, is given to a team that has substantially improved the user experience of a Pega application through the use of best practices for design and/or implementation.

The Process

In the past, teams needed a fair amount of technical knowledge to create a mobile channel. That experience was time consuming and difficult for the user. When the Story Board team first embarked on developing a more user-friendly mobile channel configuration experience, they had a difficult problem to solve: how can creating a mobile channel be as user friendly as possible but still provide the user the functionality they need to deliver?

The Story Board team focused on the user experience by empathizing with the people who needed to perform this work. As a result of their work, a process that previously took hours, now only takes a few minutes.

The team found inspiration through a combination of competitive analysis and a passion to simplify the authoring experience. “When an app builder has so many abstract pieces, quality is hard. By moving many screens into a single experience, the experience of building a mobile app is easier and the end result for their users is better as well,” says Product Owner Vijay Vaddem.

The Achievement

The Story Board team delivered a user friendly mobile authoring experience that allows a user to see a live preview of the phone as the configuration settings are modified.  This low-code experience offers useful content, a beautiful design, and most importantly, credible configuration pages that ensure users see what they are building in real time.

The Impact:

The new mobility authoring experience is easy to use and cuts the configuration time and add-on feature time.  Why is this design so successful? It was built collaboratively by designers, engineers and product owners.

“I used to get so many requests about how to configure mobile applications. Now with all these UX designs and channel specific configuration, we are hardly getting requests about how to configure mobile channels,” says Shibani, Storyboard Engineer.
