Classifying rules for license compliance

You can classify a rule to control how your system reports its usage. By providing an accurate account of the types of rules in your production application, you can ensure that you comply with the terms of your software agreement.

You can classify the following rule types:
  • Operator IDs:
    1. Use the Records Explorer to find the Operator IDs in your application.
    2. For each Operator ID that supports an agent, process, or external assignment, click the name of the Operator ID to open the Operator ID form.
    3. Click the Security tab.
    4. In the License type list, select Invocation.
    5. Click Save.
  • Data pages:
    1. Use the Records Explorer to find the data pages in your application.
    2. For each data page that modifies data in the Pega Platform database only, click the name of the data page to open the Data Page form.
    3. On the Definition tab, select the Local save check box.
    4. Click Save.
  • Integration connectors:
    1. Use the Records Explorer to find rules in the Integration-Connectors category.
    2. For each rule that connects to an external system but does not modify its data, select the Call is read-only check box.

      The location of this check box can vary, based on the type of rule that you are updating.

    3. Click Save.
  • Case types:
    1. In the navigation panel, click Case types.
    2. Click the name of the case type.
    3. On the Workflow tab, click Settings.
    4. In the General settings category, choose an option from the Case-based usage license tracking category list.

      The word Case means use of the software for the creation, routing, updating, processing, tracking and/or resolution of a single unit of work in a production environment. A single unit of work is an individual instance of the execution of a business process (whether processed as a stand-alone case or a related case within a more extensive business process), evidenced by an assigned unique numerical identifier.

      The license tracking categories are:

      • Work Management - Routes or tracks work among people or systems for processing and completion in other transaction systems.

      • Work Execution - Manages the processing and completion of work, including directly updating other transaction systems.

      • Complex Work Execution - Extends the Work Execution classification by performing dozens or hundreds of updates in external systems that routinely require more than one month to resolve.

    5. Click Save.
    Result: The case type is classified but is not evaluated by the default audit reports. For more information about how these classifications affect your license agreement, contact your Pegasystems Business Officer.
