Improving performance by archiving cases

Updated on May 11, 2022

Enable case archiving for Pega Cloud to move inactive cases to secondary storage. By periodically purging entries from your database, you can improve application performance. Routine case archival improves search and reporting, increases performance for database queries, shortens database maintenance cycles, reduces primary database costs, and creates better compliance with government compliance policies, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Before you begin: In Pega Platform version 8.6, archiving cases is available only for Pega Cloud environments. To archive cases in an on-premise environment, upgrade to Pega Platform 8.7 or later. For more information, see Archiving and expunging case data.
  1. Case archiving and purging overview

Use case archiving to archive and purge cases to improve the performance of your cloud-based instance of Pega Platform and reduce storage costs. Permanently delete data from Pega Cloud File Storage to meet your business data retention policy with Pega Platform expunge functionality. Understand how case archiving works so that you can effectively plan and perform case archiving policy within Pega Platform.

  2. Planning your case archiving and purging process

Plan your case archiving and purging process to ensure that it is efficiently implemented.

  3. Creating an archival policy

Create an archival policy to control which cases your application archives to Pega Cloud File Storage and purges from your Pega Platform database. Create a data-retention policy to control when to expunge (permanently delete) archive files from Pega Cloud File Storage. You can also quickly test an archival policy using a test mode on non-production systems.

  4. Scheduling the case archival process

Control when your application archives cases to improve application performance and avoid issues that might negatively impact the performance of your Pega Platform.

  5. Managing your case archiving and purge process

Actively manage your case archival process to improve performance and resolve errors more quickly.
