Client-side software requirements

Updated on November 12, 2020

Pega Platform™ uses the following client-side technologies for some design-time and run-time user tasks:

  • Adobe Flash
  • Microsoft Silverlight

Design-time client-side software

The following table summarizes the design-time client-side software and the corresponding Pega roadmap.

Adobe Flash

Used by the Declarative Network Analyzer

In Pega 8.4, the Declarative Network Analyzer tool is the only tool that depends on the Adobe Flash plug-in. The Flash plug-in is now blocked by modern versions of Google Chrome. If you want to use Declarative Network Analyzer, use a different browser or an older version of Chrome that does not block Flash technology. Dependency on Flash will be removed in a later release.

Earlier versions of Pega depend on Adobe Flash for the Rule Referencing tool and for list view rules and summary view rules.

Rule Referencing tool

In Pega 8.4, the Rule Referencing tool uses an auto-generated UI instead of Flash technology. The updated version of the Rule Referencing tool provides the same functionality as the former Flash-based tool but has a modern UI aligned with the look-and-feel of Dev Studio and better integrates with the ruleform.

The Flash-based Rule Referencing tool in Pega 8.3 and earlier is now blocked by modern versions of Google Chrome. If you use Pega 8.3 or earlier and want to use the Rule Referencing tool, install the Pega Rule Referencing Tool component available on Pega Marketplace. Alternatively, you can use a different browser or an earlier version of Chrome that does not block Flash.

To download the Rule Referencing tool component, see Pega Rule Referencing Tool on Pega Marketplace. For more information on installing components, see Installing components.

List view rules and summary view rules for charts

Flash is used for list views and summary view rules in Pega 7.1 and earlier. In Pega 7.2 and later, list views and summary views are deprecated and the views should be converted to use the Report Definition rule type. For more information about converting list view and summary view rules to Report Definition rules, see Best practices for converting list view rules and summary view rules.

Microsoft OfficeMicrosoft Office is not required for any design-time functionality.

Many Pega Platform features support the .docx and .xlsx formats.
