Back Forward Role

This term has three uses.

Access roles

An access role is an instance of the Rule-Access-Role-Name rule type. An access role can be assigned to users (or requestors) to influence their access control. These roles determine what operations they can perform on what classes.

NoteDon't confuse access roles with access groups, which affect RuleSet and version visibility. Access groups are data instances (of the Data-Admin-Operator-AccessGroup class), while access roles are rules.

Work party roles

A work object can identify one or many work parties, who are people, businesses, or organizations involved in some way with the work object. The work party role associated with each work party identifies why a party is present, and may determine which properties are defined for that party.

For example, a work party role can identify a party role as the originating bank of a money transfer, or the claimant in an insurance settlement, or the defendant's lawyer in a litigation.

Security roles

Tomcat and other application servers use security roles to control access to servlets. For example, the PegaDiagnosticUser security role provides access to the System Management application.
