Purpose

A property rule provides a name and characteristics for data in an object. Because a property definition is a rule, it shares the benefits of versioning, inheritance, and access control that Process Commander provides to all rules.

A property has one of eleven modes, arranged in three groups. The General tab layout depends on the mode and the Table Type field. See:

Your system includes hundreds of standard properties useful to your application. Review the relevant existing properties before creating new properties. Consult documentation and use Process Commander facilities to look for the ones you need. See Nine ways to find rules.

Tip For a Single Value property, choose the wording of the Short Description with care. This helps you and others select the right property when using the Report wizard, entering expressions, and elsewhere.

Access

Use the Application Explorer or Cases and Content slice (Content Management) to access the property rules that apply to the work types in your application. Use the Class Explorer to list all property rules available to you by Applies To class.

Category

Property rules are part of the Property category. A property rule is an instance of the Rule-Obj-Property rule type.

Database table

Property rules are normally stored in the PegaRULES database as rows of the pr4_rule_property table.
