updates a work object, but does not require user interaction and input.
Your system includes standard activities for utility tasks, and you can
create additional ones.

Don't confuse Utility tasks — part
of a flow — with the unrelated Rule-Utility- rule
types; the Rule-Utility- rule types support Java
functions.
A Utility activity can use the TaskStatus-Set method to return a text result to the flow.
