About Text File rules

Field

Description

Relative Path

Optional. Enter a subdirectory of the Web server directory that is identified by the first key part of the instance. For style sheets, enter css. R-9795 Extract button removed

Compact JS

This field appears only when the file type is JS. Select to compactify the JavaScript source code — making it require less workstation memory and shorter to transmit — for best performance. Clear to simplify JavaScript debugging.

This field is ignored if the user preference Disable Compacting (in the JavaScript subgroup, General preferences group) is checked.

File Source

Enter the contents of the rule. The text can contain JavaScript source code, HTML, style definitions, or other values.

Click the pencil icon () to open a text editor such as Notepad. If the file has a CSS, HTM, or JS file type, the editor that opens depends on Windows file associations on your workstation. To view or change this setting:

  1. Start the Windows Explorer.
  2. Select Tools > Folders Options
  3. Click the File Types tab
  4. Access the Edit operation for a file type. MARTT 4/20/05
 Upload File

Click to upload a text file on your workstation into this rule. Save the rule form after the upload completes.

 Download File

Click to extract the text from this rule into a temporary text file on your workstation, so you can edit or examine it. B-25619 BUG-827 CSS

 Check JS Syntax

This button appears when the third key part of the rule is js.

If you have a JavaScript editor and debugger registered on your workstation as the editor for JavaScript files, click to open the editor and check JavaScript syntax. MARTT 4/24/06
