SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is a protocol that is used for the exchange of information in a decentralized, distributed environment. SOAP is an XML-based protocol with three components:

Services implemented using SOAP are often called Web services. The SOAP standard is maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) at WWW linkwww.w3c.org.
