Business processes that can usually or often be performed completely automatically, with no human intervention, are said to support straight-through processing (STP).
A flow rule that contains no assignment shapes by definition implements straight through processing. A flow rule that contains assignments that apply only for unusual, rare situations also can be considered straight.
Requests completed with straight-through processing are sometimes called "one-and-done" requests, though this term is also used of requests that require only one user decision or input, or one customer interaction.
