You can meet most reporting requirements through report definitions rather than through list view rules. Report definition rules provide more flexible and powerful customization and personalization from the run-time report display, and are recommended for reports created in PRPC 6.1 and newer. Purpose

Use a list view rule to define a version 5 report or personal version of a version 5 report. This rule generates HTML that provides an attractive interactive display. The resulting reports can be run from a link in the Monitor Activity workspace, presented in a flow action, or executed through other processing.

In an activity, the Obj-List-View method can execute a list view rule to provide searching and sorting with no display.

With appropriate configuration on the Organize tab, a list view rule can support editing of PRPC data (property values) in Microsoft Excel.

Completing the rule form

As a best practice, start by generating the report with the Report wizard; you can refine the resulting list view rule. When using the List View form, complete the tabs in the following order:

1. Use the New dialog box to record the rule key.
2. Complete the Display Fields tab to record the layout of an HTML <TABLE> display of results.
3. Complete the Content tab to define a search of the PegaRULES database and exploit the retrieval, filtering, and sorting power of database software.
4. Use the Organize tab to apply further filtering, sorting, paging, and define buttons for the display.
5. On the Format tab, define interactions and advanced capabilities.
6. Update the Full Description on the History tab with a report title.
7. Complete other optional tabs and fields.
8. Save the rule.
9. Optionally, review the generated HTML on the HTML tab.
10. Test by selecting the Run option in the Actions menu.

Access

Both developers and managers can create and update list view rules:

• From the Designer Studio, developers can define list view reports using the V5 Report wizard. The reports can cover classes derived from the Rule-, Data-, Work-, or Assign- base classes.
• From the Monitor Activity workspace, users of the WorkManager portal similarly define reports for classes derived from the Work- or Assign- base classes.
• Working directly with the List View form, developers can create a report for any concrete class.

They can also access and update the list view rules directly to make advanced tweaks and changes to list view reports defined first through the Report wizard.
