Using Process Outline |
The Process Outline feature enables you to configure the processes and shape properties represented by the stages and steps on the Case Designer Stages & Processes tab. To switch to this view, hover your mouse pointer beneath the last step in a stage and click the Configure process detail link.
For case types that are process-based (do not employ a stage-based design), click a process tile to open the flow in Process Outline.
The display is divided into two areas. On the left, a tree shows the Process Modeler shapes, which represent the steps in a stage. The workspace on the right shows either a shape's property panel or a process diagram (depending upon the type of step).
A top node indicates the step's process. Indented nodes show the shapes used in the process.
Click a Flow shape to display the flow record in Process Modeler.
Click an Assignment or Create shape to open its property panel in the workspace. These shapes bypass the flow rule.
You can use perform the following actions in the tree:
Start and End shapes do not appear in the outline tree.
When you select a Flow shape, its Process Modeler diagram appears enabling you to configure the process without going to its flow rule. This diagram provides most of the design capabilities available on the flow rule's Diagram tab. See Process Modeler — Interacting with the Diagram tab. As a best practice make your updates in the Process Overview diagram rather than the one on the flow rule. Use the flow rule to access settings such as flow parameters, pages and classes, security, and so on.
If a flow is in a built-on application or framework and you want to update the process, click the Specialize button to copy the flow to the case type in your current application.
When you have completed your edits:
Return to the Stages & Processes tab (before or after saving the flow) by clicking the Back to stages button. For process-based case types, click the Back to Process button.
You can display a shape's properties by selecting the shape on the Process Outline tree. In this view, an Assignment shape contains settings for building a user form consisting of a flow action, section, and data properties. This functionality is not available when you open the shape's panel in a diagram on a flow rule Diagram tab. See Process Modeler — Editing Assignment shapes.
To move between stages in Process Outline view, click the chevrons above the work area.
Remember to save or reject your edits by before you switch stages.
