Use this array to identify a skin—a collection of styles defined by a skin rule—and other presentation styles for this portal.

As a best practice for new applications, create composite portals for users and managers, or copy and evolve the standard composite portals pyCaseManager, User and Manager. See About composite portals.

The combination of selections for the Role and Type fields determines what other tabs are available in the rule form.

Field

Description

Role

Select:

  • User — To indicate that this portal rule supports application users who do not update rules. The style sheet and JavaScript files for this choice require substantially less memory on the user workstation Developer setting. Specify User if you are creating a Mobile portal.
  • Developer — To provide portal capabilities used by developers or business analysts. While most aspects of the Designer Studio are fixed, you can customize styles. Skins, Custom, Options, and History tabs are available.

Type

Select a type. The default type is Composite, which provides the most flexibility in development and the greatest support for localization and accessibility. See About composite portals.

The available options depend on what is selected for the Role field.

  • For the User role:

    Fixed specifies a traditional portal. The Skins, Tabs, Custom, Options, and History tabs are available.

    Composite specifies a composite portal. The Skins, Spaces, and History tabs are available.

    Custom specifies a custom portal. Specify this when you want to use an activity to provide the capabilities you want to offer to users associated with this portal rule. The Skins and History tabs are available. Use the Activity field on the Skins tab to specify the activity.

    Mobile specifies a portal for users of mobile devices. Specify this when you want to create a portal for mobile device users. The Skins and History tabs are available. Use the Home Navigation Rule, Main Navigation Rule, and Toolbar Navigation Rule fields on the Skins tab to specify the navigation rules for the home, main, and toolbar navigation panes. This option only appears when the Role field is set to User.

  • For the Developer role: the valid Type is Composite, which specifies a composite portal. The Skins, Spaces, and History tabs are available.

Skin

Select a skin rule to define CSS styles for user forms, report displays, and portal elements.

Press the down arrow to select a skin from the list or select Default to Application Skin to use the skin defined in the Definition tab of the Application form.

Setting the portal skin to use the skin associated with an application means that you can have a single portal rendered using the skin associated with each application. This eliminates the need to create multiple portal skins that correspond to your various application skins.

An application can be rendered using either the skin defined on the portal or the skin defined in the application rule. During development, you can override this by specifying a skin to be used when running a process from the developer portal.

The standard skin Developer is reserved for the standard Developer portal rule, which defines the Designer Studio.

For Mobile portal type, skins are not supported.

Activity

If you select Custom as the Type, an Activity field and a params button appear. Specify or create the activity that provides the capabilities you want to offer to users associated with this portal rule.

After you have selected the activity, click the params button. Enter appropriate values for each activity parameter.

Home Navigation Rule

If you select Mobile as the Type, the Home Navigation Rule field appears. Specify or create the mobile navigation rule that provides the content of the home panel you want to offer to users associated with this portal rule. This is a required field, though on a phone or portable media player device, the Home Navigation does not appear. This Home Navigation Rule rule contains a single node of type Item.

The content of this rule appears on the tablet:

  • At initial load of the mobile portal.
  • When the user clicks Done on the Confirm harness.
  • When the user clicks Cancel on a New or Perform harness.

Note: Reference a navigation rule of type Mobile. If you reference a Standard type navigation rule, a validation error will appear when you save the portal rule.

Main Navigation Rule

If you select Mobile as the Type, the Main Navigation Rule field appears. This is a required field. Specify or create the mobile navigation rule that provides the main navigation capabilities you want to offer to users associated with this portal rule.

The content of this rule occupies the entire screen on a phone or portable media player. On a tablet device, the content of this navigation appears on the left in landscape mode, and as an overlay in portrait mode when you tap the Navigation button.

The boxes in the Visible On: area are checked by default. Click to uncheck and prevent display of the Main Navigation Rule on phones and tablets. If the Phone box is unchecked for the Main Navigation Rule, the Home Navigation Rule is used at run-time.

Note: Reference a navigation rule of type Mobile. If you reference a Standard type navigation rule, a validation error will appear when you save the portal rule.

Toolbar Navigation Rule

If you select Mobile as the Type, the Toolbar Navigation Rule field appears. This is a required field. Specify or create the mobile navigation rule that provides the toolbar navigation capabilities you want to offer to users associated with this portal rule.

The content of this rule appears at the top of the display on a tablet device, and at the bottom of the display on a phone or portable media player.

The toolbar navigation pane is optionally supplemented by the Supplemental Toolbar Navigation Rule field on the Display Options tab on the Harness.

Application Header Text

If you select Mobile as the Type, the Application Header Text field appears. This is an optional field. Enter a name or description of your application. The text displays above the Main Navigation rule on the mobile device at run-time.grahl v6.3 US-18640

Default to Portal Short Description

If you select Mobile as the Type, the Default to Portal Short Description check box appears. Click to check this box if you would like to the application header text to default to the value you entered in the Short Description field of the portal rule header.grahl v6.3 US-18640

Application Header Logo

If you select Mobile as the Type, the Application Header Logo field appears. Optionally, enter the path to a .png image that you would like to display as part of the application description. Large images scale down to 32 x 32 pixels. No scaling applies to images smaller than 32 x 32 pixels.

If an image is provided without text, the image centers in the available space. If you wish to include an image with no text, leave the Application Header Text field blank, and do not check the Default to Portal Description check box.grahl v6.3 US-18640

Logo Alignment

If you select Mobile as the Type, the Logo Alignment field appears. Use the drop-down menu to indicate whether the logo should appear to the Left or Right of the header text.
