Description

General

Three check boxes control overall operation of spellchecking.

Allow Accented Capitals?

If not selected, any word containing an accented capital letter is marked as misspelled.

Ordinarily, select this for best performance, except for French Canadian spellings with the French dictionary.

Is Case Sensitive?

Select to cause dictionary comparisons to be case sensitive so that FROM (or From or fROM) in the form does not match from in a dictionary. Clear to force case-insensitive comparisons.

Strip Possessives?

Select to cause a trailing 's or s' to be stripped from words before dictionary comparisons. (Dictionaries do not contain possessive forms of words.)

Ignore

Select a box to cause the spellchecker to skip over certain words.

Mixed Case?

Select to ignore words containing an unusual mix of uppercase and lowercase characters, such as RuleSet.

Digits in Word?

Select to ignore words containing both letters and digits, such as Win2K.

Capitalized Word?

Select to ignore words beginning with a capital letter, such as Pega.

All Caps in Word?

Select to ignore words containing only capital letters, such as IBM.

Domain Names?

Ignore words that appear to be Web domain names, such as pega.com.

Non-Alpha Word?

Ignore words that contain no alphabetic characters, such as $123.45.

Flag as Bad Word

Select to cause the spellcheck function to flag words meeting these criteria as misspelled.

Mixed Case?

Select to mark words containing an unusual mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, such as RuleSet. (This box is ignored if the Mixed Case? box in the Ignore group is selected.)

Digits in Word?

Select to mark words containing both letters and digits, such as Win2K. (This box is ignored if the Digits in Word? box in the Ignore group is selected.)

Not Capitalized?

Select to mark words for which a dictionary contains a capitalized form (such as Chicago), but the word does not match (for example, chicago or chicagO). (This box is ignored if the Capitalized Word? box in the Ignore group is selected.)

Double Word?

Select to mark a repeated word as misspelled.

Examine as Separate Words
Contracted Words?

Select to cause each part of a contraction to be checked separately when the whole contraction is not found in any dictionary. For example, French and Italian allow such ad hoc contractions.

Hyphenated Words?

Select to cause each part of a hyphenated word to be checked separately when the whole hyphenated word is not found in any dictionary. The entire word is correct only if each part is correct.

Split Words?

Leave blank in most cases. Select to cause the spellchecker to attempt to split invalid words into sub-words that are valid. This feature is useful in languages such as German and Finnish, which allow ad hoc concatenation of words.

Suggestions
Level of Quality

Choose a value between 1 and 100 to limit the depth of search for suggested words. Enter 100 for maximum search, which may take several seconds to complete.

Give Split Word
Suggestions?

Select to instruct the spellchecker to attempt to split a misspelled word into two valid words when searching for suggested words. For example, a suggestion for "thereis" is "there is."

Initial Number of
Suggestions?

Specify the number of initial suggestions to display for a misspelled word in the rich text editor. The rich text editor displays in a number of locations within the Pega 7 Platform, including correspondence, paragraph rules, and attachments.

Maximum Number of
Suggestions?

Specify the maximum number of suggestions to display for a misspelled word in the rich text editor. These suggestions display when a user clicks More Suggestions in the spell checker within the rich text editor. The rich text editor displays in a number of locations within the Pega 7 Platform, including correspondence, paragraph rules, and attachments.
