Completing the Axis tab for a line chart

When a Chart control displays a line chart, the second tab of the Cell Properties panel is labeled Axis. The tab has two areas:

• X-Axis
• Y-Axis

X-Axis

Set values for the X, or horizontal, axis of the chart:

• Axis label-- Provide a name for the axis.
• Label format-- Select one of the options provided. Depending on which you choose, further fields may appear:
  • None, Email, Phone, or URL -- No further fields appear.
  • Text -- You can opt to include a text string in either of these fields:
    • Auto prepend -- a value that appears before the text string.
    • Auto append -- a value that appears after the text string.

Check the Grid labels check box to have grid labels appear, and specify in the Orientation field whether they display horizontally, vertically, or slanted.

Check the Grid lines check box to have grid lines appear.

Y-Axis

Set values for the Y, or vertical, axis of the chart. If the Series is set to

• Axis label -- Provide a name for the axis.
• Min value -- Provide the minimum value for the Y-axis.
• Max value -- Provide the maximum value for the Y-axis.
• Decimals -- Select Auto to have the system select the number of decimal places to appear, or a number from those available.
• Numeric symbol field -- select an option:
  • None, -- No further fields appear.
  • Currency -- Select "Local currency", which defaults to the system settings, or "Other currency" and, in the field that appears, select the property that holds the symbol for that currency.
    Specify whether the currency symbol appears to the left or right of the value.
    In the Display currency as field, select to display the currency symbol, the country code for the currency, or the currency name.
  • Constant -- In the Constant field that appears, provide the constant for the currency symbol. Specify whether the symbol appears to the left or right of the value in the Position field.
  • Reference -- In the Symbol reference field , select the property that holds the currency symbol. Specify whether the symbol appears to the left or right of the value in the Position field.
• Check the Separators check box to have appropriate separators (typically , or .) appear to divide millions, thousands, and so on.
• Grid labels -- Check to have labels for the grid lines appear.
• Grid lines -- Check to have a grid visible on the chart.
