You can add an assignment to a flow to create a task, such as entering employment history, that a user must perform before a case can move to the next step in the life cycle. By using assignments, you can capture user input in a structured way.
Tip: You can add an assignment to a flow by using Process Modeler or Case Designer. Process Modeler supports the full set of options for a flow, while Case Designer supports a subset of options but displays the flow in the context of a case life cycle.
Open a flow by searching for it or by using the Application Explorer.
On the Diagram tab of the Flow form, click the Shape palette icon , and then select Assignment.
Drag the Assignment shape to a position in the flow diagram, based on when the assignment is processed at run time.
Connect the assignment to other shapes in the flow by doing the following steps:
On the shape that precedes the assignment, redirect the outgoing connector to the assignment.
If there is no outgoing connector, you can create one by hovering over the shape and dragging a new connector to the assignment.
Hover over the assignment, and drag a new connector to the next shape in the sequence.
By default, no flow action is associated with a new connector. You can add one by building a form for the assignment or by configuring the connector.
Double-click the assignment to open the Assignment properties dialog box.
In the Assignment field, enter a description for the assignment.
Optional: To display instructions for the assignment at run time, expand the Assignment details section in the Advanced section and enter the name of a field value in the Instructions field.
Optional: Add a confirmation note to the assignment.
Click Submit to close the Assignment properties dialog box.
Click Save.
By default, the assignment is routed to the worklist of the user who is currently processing the case, and follows one path to the next shape in the sequence when completed. You can change this behavior by using different routing options and adding more connectors to the flow diagram.
