Configuring index host nodes

In a multinode cluster system, the index files required for search can be hosted on one or more nodes. To ensure high reliability and minimize search query downtime, configure at least two, and preferably three nodes as search host nodes.

Caution! If you define more than one host node, wait until the index files have been completely built on the first node before configuring additional nodes. Configuring an additional host node causes the index files to be replicated from the first node to the next node and you want to ensure that the files have been completely built on the first node before replicating them.

To configure an index host node:

1. Click Designer Studio > System > Settings > Search.
2. Expand the Search index host node setting section.
3. Click Add Node below the list to add a node or click the X icon to the right of the node to remove it.
4. Enter the following information for a new index node:

   • Search Index Host Node ID - The ID of a node on which the Elasticsearch index files will be stored. You can look up valid nodes on the Designer Studio > System > General > Systems, Nodes, Requestors page.
   • Search Index File Directory - The absolute file path to the directory on the node in which the Elasticsearch index files will be stored. If no value is specified, Pega 7 Platform writes index files to a subdirectory of the PegaRULES temporary directory PegaSearchIndex.
5. Click Submit.

Note: For a new installation, allocate at least 1 GB of free space for the search index files. For an upgrade, allocate three times the amount of space previously configured on the Search landing page for index files. This extra space is recommended to optimize performance.
