Records can be created in various ways. You can add a new record to your application or copy an existing one. You can specialize existing rules by creating a copy in a specific ruleset, against a different class or (in some cases) with a set of circumstance definitions. You may copy data instances but they do not support specialization as they are not versioned.

Based on your use case, the Create, Save As, or Specialization form is used to create the record. The number of fields and available options vary by record type. Start by familiarizing yourself with the generic layout of these forms and their common fields:

This information identifies the key parts and options that are applicable to the record type you are creating.

Create a Category rule by selecting Category from the Reports category.

A Category rule has three key parts:

Field

Description

Identifier

Specify a name for the category. Begin the name with a letter and use only letters, numbers, and hyphens.
Owner Type

Select an option:

  • Standard – This category is visible to all users of the application. Saved as "S".
  • Shared – This category can hold shortcuts to personal reports. These shortcuts are available to colleagues that are in the same access group as the creator. Saved as "A".
  • Personal – This category helps organize a manager's personal reports, and is only available to its creator. Saved as "P".
Owner

If the Owner Type for the category is:

  • Standard– This field defaults to ALL.
  • Shared – Enter or select an access group to share the category. Note: Use a descriptive and unique category name, because members of the same access group can create shared categories with the same name.
  • Personal – Select the Operator ID of the category owner.

Rule resolution

When searching for a Category rule, the system filters candidate rules based on a requestor's ruleset list of rulesets and versions.

Time-qualified resolution features are not available for Category rules.
