Referencing Rules window

The Referencing Rules window shows how one rule , called the focus rule, exists within the context of other rules that might reference it,and other rules that it references.

• The Referencing Rules column shows other rules that reference the current focus rule, grouped by common name.
• The middle column identifies the current focus rule.
• The Referenced Rules column lists rules referenced by the current focus rule, grouped by common name. The exact rule that the system finds at run time may differ from the name shown, due to class inheritance.

This display is not restricted by your ruleset list. Some rules in this display might belong to rulesets or versions that you cannot open or execute.

You can perform the following tasks in this window.

• From the Referencing Rules column, select and drag a rule name into the white area in the middle column to make it the focus rule. The system retrieves and updates the display as appropriate. A red line links the current focus rule to the previous focus rule, which now appears in the left or right column.

• Select Show Overrides to list, in the middle column, other rules that override the focus rule through class inheritance. For example, a property named Alpha-.PartNum overrides a the property named @baseclass.PartNum. Overridden rules due to rulesets, versions, and other sources do not appear.

• Select the Show Versions and Circumstances check box to list, in the left and middle columns, circumstanced rules and multiple versions of rules.

  Clear the check box to display only rule names in the left and right columns, and a specific rule version in as the focus column. The rule names represent a collapsed collection of rules that can belong to various rulesets, versions, and with various circumstance and time qualifications.

• From the Referenced Rules column, select and drag a rule name into the white area or orange focus area of the middle column to make that rule the focus. The system retrieves the rule, using your own ruleset list with rule resolution, and updates the columns as appropriate. A red line links the current focus rule to the previous focus rule, which now appears in the left or right column.
• From the Referenced Rules column, select and drag an override rule into the orange focus area of the center column, to make that rule the focus rule.
