Assigning a task to an external application

You can use the Assignment Service shape to send a request from a flow to a service. By integrating external applications with your process, you can add more functionality to your application.

1. Add the Assignment Service shape to your flow.

2. Double-click the Assignment Service shape to open the property panel.

3. Enter values in the fields of the property panel, based on the functionality that your flow requires.

   Options include:

   Field	Description
   Type	Select an activity with an Activity Type of Rule Connect. Three standard activities, stubBPELinvoke, stubBPELreceive, stubBPELreply, defined with Work- as the Applies To class are always choices in this field.
   Parameters	The activity you select may accept input parameters that will appear in the box below. Supply a value for each parameter. Parameter values are validated when you save the flow unless the flow is in draft mode.

4. Click Submit to close the property panel.

5. Click Save.

   At run time, your flow pauses when it reaches the Assignment Service shape, and resumes when it receives an incoming service request of the expected type.

You can test the Assignment Service shape by connecting it to other shapes and running your flow.
