Notifications

Applications can send notifications to users to update them about the activities that they are interested in and engage them. Notifications are displayed as messages in the run-time portal or sent as email messages or push notifications.

You can trigger a notification in a process or in an activity. The triggered notification is delivered based on the configuration defined in a notification rule. This rule specifies the message, the intended recipients, and the delivery channels.

You can select one or all of the available channels: web gadget, email, and mobile push. When you select web gadget as a channel, notifications are displayed as a message in the run-time portal. Users click the notifications web gadget icon in the portal header to view the notifications. You can include additional notification web gadgets in your portal to display different types of notifications separately. When you select mobile push as a channel, users can approve and reject cases on their mobile devices. If a mobile device uses Android 7.0 or later, or iOS 9.0 or later, users can also respond to Pulse messages in cases without opening a custom mobile app. Additionally, you can build your own channel to deliver notifications. If you have a custom channel, the configuration options are automatically available in the rule form.

Different channels display notifications differently. You can customize the message based on the channel. The notification rule provides customization options for displaying messages for different channels.

Users can control which type of notifications they receive and when they receive them. Run-time portals provide options to set notification preferences. Users can update their preferences or turn off all notifications.
