The SMS landing page contains the following tabs:

 

The Outbound tab displays a detailed list of Outbound SMS account configurations currently defined in your system.

The list of Outbound SMS accounts contains the following columns:

Column Heading

Description

Account name Displays the name of the Outbound SMS account.
Host address Displays the address of the Outbound SMS host.
Port Displays the port number of the Outbound SMS host.
User ID Displays the user identifier to connect to the Outbound SMS host.
Senders # Displays the phone number used for sending outbound SMS messages.
Unit cost Displays the cost associated with sending one SMS message.
Connection Contains a link to test the connectivity of the Outbound SMS account.

Use the Add new connection button or Edit link to launch the Add / Edit Outbound SMS Connection dialog. The SMS account configuration is broken into three tabs - Setup, Advanced, and Additional settings.

The Setup tab lists the essential fields required for Outbound SMS account configuration. This includes the following:

Field Name

Description

Account name Unique name of the Outbound SMS account
Host address Address of the Outbound SMS host (SMSC)
Host port Port number of the SMSC (with which to connect)
User ID User identifier used to connect to the SMSC
Password Password used to connect to the SMSC
Test number Phone number to send test SMS message when testing account connection [Currently not supported]
Sender's number Phone number to use for sending outbound SMS messages
Maximum connections Maximum number of simultaneous connections that this account can create with the SMSC.
  • System uses 1 if no value is specified.
  • System uses 5 if a value greater than 10 is specified.

The Setup tab also allows for specification of delivery time frames for Outbound SMS accounts. The following two options are available in the Account Availability section:

 

The Advanced tab lists additional fields for advanced configuration of the Outbound SMS account.

 

The Additional settings tab provides a mechanism to specify additional SMPP properties that are not exposed in the other tabs. Use the Add row link to add a new setting. For each setting, specify Property name and Property value.

 

After configuring the Outbound SMS account details, click OK to save your changes or click Cancel to discard your changes.

The Inbound tab displays a detailed list of Inbound SMS account configurations currently defined in your system.

The list of Inbound SMS accounts contains the following columns:

Column Heading

Description

Running Indicates the status of the Inbound SMS account. Toggle the control to switch the account on or off.
Listener name Displays the name of the Inbound SMS account.
Host address Displays the address of the SMSC host.
IP address Displays the IP address of the SMSC host.
Inbox address Displays the address of the inbox, on which to listen for responses.
Port Displays the port number of the SMSC host.
User ID Displays the user identifier to connect to the SMSC host.
Connection status Displays the status of the Inbound SMS account connection.

The Connection setup tab lists the fields required for configuring the Inbound SMS account connection. This includes the following:

Account name Unique name of the Inbound SMS account
Host address Address of the SMSC host
Host port Port number of the SMSC (with which to connect)
Inbox address Address of the inbox, on which to listen for responses
IP address IP address of the SMSC host
User ID User identifier to use to connect to the SMSC
Password Password used to connect to the SMSC
Reconnect time Time (in seconds) to wait between reconnection attempts
Response timeout Timeout (in seconds) for responses to requests from the SMSC
Max number of retries [Deprecated - not used]

 

The Additional settings tab provides a mechanism to specify additional SMPP properties that are not exposed in the other tabs. Use the Add row link to add a new setting. For each setting, specify Property name and Property value.

 

The Response behaviors tab specifies how the system should process Inbound SMS messages that are received by this Inbound SMS account. Choose between the following two options:

Un-initiated Responses

You must also specify how the system should handle un-initiated responses to Offers. Select between the following two options:

Responses from unknown customers

When the system receives an inbound SMS message, the sender’s number is looked up against the customer table to determine the customer that sent the message. If no matching customer is found, the message is treated as an error and is moved to the UnhandledInboundSMS work basket for further processing.

After configuring the Inbound SMS account details, click OK to save your changes or click Cancel to discard your changes.
