Accessibility: Provide alternative text for images (PDF)

Summary



When using the out-of-the-box (OOTB) HTMLtoPDF activity to produce a PDF within Pega 7, the images embedded in the resulting PDF files are not accessible even when the HTML source contains appropriate <title> and <alt> tags for accessibility.  
 

Error Messages



Not Applicable.


Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create an HTML rule containing an image with defined <alt> and <title> tags.
  2. Run the OOTB HTMLtoPDF activity with the create HTML rule.
  3. Observe through hover and when using a screen reader that the images do not contain the accessible content specified in the HTML.


Root Cause



A third-party product issue. This is a current limitation in the PD4ML library.

Resolution



An enhancement request, FDBK-15367, has been created for consideration by Pega Product Management.
