Authentication Exception & Connection Reset (office 365 email)

User is connecting to Office 365 account and see below exceptions intermittently.

User is able to send the emails from the same configuration however, if the batch job is supposed to send 100 emails, one or two are not sent in between due to authentication exception.

Error Messages

javax.mail.MessagingException: Connection reset;

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Configure Email account with office 365 email id. Enable SMTP and IMAP.
  2. Try sending email (larger number in single batch) with this account and we can get Authentication exception in between.
  3. Observe that Connection Reset can occur anytime.

Root Cause

The problem is caused by an imposed limitation of the IMAP and SMTP service as provided by Microsoft Office 365.

Office 365 is meant to support human clients, not an automated email sender as one coming with PRPC's send email feature.

So it allows only about 30 emails per minute and not more than 10000 per day for a single account.

This would be sufficient, for example, some administrative status notifications, but not for sending out invoices to clients of a Telco or a utility company.

Select another SMTP provider.
