Autocomplete - min search characters feature does not work

SA-3433

Summary

A developer has configured the AutoComplete control in a SECTION rule instance.  At runtime, the developer has found that the minimum search characters feature does not actuate.  For example: if the minimum search characters property is defined as 2, at runtime, the user can press the right arrow key on the keyboard, and still trigger an AutoComplete operation.

The expected behavior is for the user to actually enter characters into the text box, and thereby trigger the AutoComplete operation.

Error Messages

No errors are found in the Pega Logfile; no error messages are displayed on screen.

Steps to Reproduce

To reproduce this issue:

1) Configure autocomplete control on a section
2) Use report definition or data page as the data source for the autocomplete
3) Set min search characters to 2.
4) Execute the business logic: at the SECTION rule, use the right arrow key on the keyboard, instead of entering characters into the AutoComplete control.

5) Observe the condition: AutoComplete will still present the user with data even though nothing was entered.

Root Cause

This is the expected behavior of the AutoComplete control.

Resolution

An explanation was provided to the developer: the AutoComplete control triggers immediately after receiving input from the Keyboard - the MinimumSearchCharacters property counts the number of keys pressed on the keyboard - the functionality does not distrinquish between character keys, and non-character keys (ie the arrow buttons).
