BIX output as comma separated values with embedded commas

SA-11009

Summary

You have created a BIX extract with output as a Comma Separated Values (CSV) and included a few properties. Some of the columns that were extracted have embedded commas. When the embedded comma is present, then values appear in the wrong columns as the comma separated ones are split into multiple columns and shift other values over.

Error Messages

Not Applicable.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create a BIX extract with output as a Comma Separated Value (CSV).
2. Add columns with values that include commas.

Root Cause

The root cause of this problem is a defect in customer application code/rules. BIX is writing commas as property separators.  However, due to the embeded commas in some values when Excel is reading the CSV file, it has to split the comma separated values as they cannot be distinguished from the commas that are property separators.

Resolution

The explanation for this behavior is as follows:
Use XML output instead of CSV output as it handles embedded commas in values.
