Browser throws error after Word launches and merge is complete

Summary
Developer is using the out of the box (OOTB) Word merge feature. Word launches fine and and the merge operation succeeds, but the browser raises an error.

Steps to Reproduce
Use Word merge based on OOTB section @baseclass.WordMerge in a flow action.
Root Cause
This problem occurs due to a very slow Word application launch on the developer's worstation.
The ActiveX based implementation allows 15 seconds for Word merge launch and respond back to the browser with a "successful launch" message. If the browser does not receive the message in the 15 second timeframe the reported error is raised.
Resolution
Use an alternate Silverlight-based approach by installing HFix-7187.
The hotfix allows 24 seconds for synchronization between browser and Word, which is sufficient for the local environment.
