Cannot end old session after high availability failover

In a High Availability (HA) environment, when a node fails suddenly (without being quiesced or taken down gracefully), cases that were locked in sessions on the failed node remain locked. End users get the "End Other Session" button when accessing these cases, however clicking it does not unlock the case.

Error Messages

This case is locked by your operator in another PRPC session.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Kill a node in a HA system or otherwise have it fail suddenly.
  2. As an end user, try to access a case you had locked in the failed node.
  3. Click "End Other Session."

Root Cause

Pega does not support case unlocking in a case where a node fails suddenly, only in cases where nodes are brought down gracefully per the HA guide. The case will automatically unlock after the lock timeout has expired.

The case will automatically unlock after the lock timeout has expired.
