Case Audit history records not getting purged

The purging of an independent case type is configured on the purge archive wizard and scheduled accordingly.

The cases are getting purged from the work table as expected, but the associated work history instances are not purged.

Administrators notice in the Pega Platform logs an error coupled to an ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException when processing the audit records.
