CMIS Connection with ATOM - 403 Forbidden for Sharepoint online

Summary



403 Forbidden errors are generated when testing Connect-CMIS rule using ATOM to connect to sharepoint online.


Error Messages



Caught org.apache.chemistry.opencmis.commons.exceptions.CmisPermissionDeniedException when testing connection : Forbidden


Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create Connect-CMIS rule.
  2. Select sharepoint as CMIS Provider.
  3. Select ATOM as server type.
  4. Enter sharepoint atom URI.
  5. Create NTLM authentication profile.
  6. Supply NTLM credentials.
  7. Use NTLM as authentication profile.
  8. Click Test Connection.


Root Cause



CMIS is not supported in Sharepoint online. It works only for on premise.

Resolution



Feature not supported.

The CMIS Producer is available by default in SharePoint Server for on-premises deployment.

The Producer creates CMIS-compliant endpoints with which CMIS-compliant consumer web services can inter operate.

CMIS support and the CMIS Producer feature are available on any on-premises SharePoint Server implementation where the CMIS Producer feature is activated.

​CMIS is not supported in SharePoint Online.
