CPU usage spikes during cache purge

Administrators observe large spikes in CPU consumption during specific periods of the day when the System-Cache purge agent is running.

Steps to Reproduce

There is no specific use case to replicate this behavior.

Root Cause

The System-Cache Purge operation is run by an agent during the times that added CPU is consumed. Reading the cache from the DB takes a high amount of CPU for the database until the operation is completed, and the queries involved can take a long time. However, they should not cause significant contention.

It is normal for this agent to consume a high amount of CPU while it is running. It is therefore recommended that you schedule this agent once a week and during off-peak hours. The default of daily is too frequent for many systems.
