Email Pollers Intermittently Slow Since Upgrade to 7.1.8

SA-15806

Summary

Email listeners are intermittent, slow after  Pega 7.1.8 upgrade from Pega 7.1.6. The listeners take longer to process mail items. Items are marked as read in mailbox yet can be deleted from the mailbox. Cases are slow to start.

Error Messages

Not Applicable

Steps to Reproduce

Processing of Emails by Email Listeners takes too long.

Root Cause

A defect or configuration problem in the operating environment:

The issue is caused by IMAP Partial Fetch functionality. Some later versions of JavaMail don't perform as well with IMAP partial fetch. The new release of Javamail jars (mail-1.5.2.jar) in version 7.1.8. might be causing poor performance.

Resolution

Turn off partial fetch functionality while IMAP fetches mail, via one of two methods:

1. Have Dynamic Setting
 email/partialrefresh = false (mentioned in prpc help)
2. Add the following setting to Email Listener properties:
mail.imap.partialfetch = false
