Exception on Startup after installation of Pega 7.3

Summary



After installing Pega 7.3, WAS 8.5 is configured with Progress Data Direct JDBC SQL driver datasource to connect to PegaRULES database.

Engine fails to start up and Websphere's Systemout.log contains errors.


Error Messages

There was a problem getting a list: code: 8016 SQLState: HY000 Message: [DataDirect][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 10 (""): Data type 0xA7 has an invalid data length or metadata length.
DatabaseException caused by prior exception: java.sql.SQLException: [DataDirect][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 10 (""): Data type 0xA7 has an invalid data length or metadata length.

Steps to Reproduce


  1. Install PegaRULES using com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver driver.
  2. Configure Websphere with Progress Data Direct JDBC SQL driver datasource to connect to PegaRULES database.
  3. Deploy Pega ear and start the application.

Root Cause



A software use or operation error. Progress Data Direct JDBC SQL driver is not supported by Pega.

Resolution



Make the following change to the operating environment:

Configure PegaRULES datasource in Websphere using Microsoft SQL server driver. Refer to “Creating a JDBC provider” on page 38 of the install guide.
