ExportOperators (xls) activity & Refresh makes screen hang.

A custom portal has been configured where after having clicked on a button that creates an xlsm file ('ExportOperators activity) in a section containing a OnClick 'Refresh' , the waiting icon freezes and no action is possible.

Error Messages

No error message but the waiting icon is blocked. No action is possible.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a custom portal with a section having an “ExportToExcel” button.
  2. Add on the same section a “FilePath” control.
  3. Click the button, the section is refreshed and icon and screen freeze.

Root Cause

The above reported issue manifests itself in different forms only in Internet Exlorer (IE) whenever a file download is accomplished through a section refresh.

A local change has been implemented to solve this issue as follows:
  1. Configure a button to have a run-script action calling a function that we define later in Step 2:

  1. Insert a non auto-generated section just beneath the button:

  1. Add the following lines of code in the section above:
/* Method to invoke activity to create and download the content
   Activity PegaAccel-Task-ProposeApp.pzExcelDownloadSpecsAndRequirements configured here
getFile = function() {
                var strUrlSF = new SafeURL("PegaAccel-Task-ProposeApp.pzExcelDownloadSpecsAndRequirements");
                var strUrl = pega.u.d.url +"&"+ strUrlSF.toQueryString();
                var ifrm = document.createElement("iframe");
                ifrm.setAttribute("src", strUrl);
