Function referring a column in report definition is failing

SA-43975

Summary

When creating report definitions, if the column source is filled with a function that refers to a property in Sybase, exceptions are thrown.

Error Messages

java.lang.NullPointerException. Second Java step in activity pzGetFiltersFromContent in ruleset Pega-Reporting:07-10-23 is failing

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a Report definition.
  2. Specify one of the Out-of-the-box (OOTB) functions as a column value.
  3. For the parameter value in the function, specify a property in an external Sybase database.

Root Cause

An issue in the custom application code or rules: The use of functions with properties in unsupported databases ( Sybase) for report definitions is not supported.

The OOTB function aliases have been implemented against the APIs of the supported databases (example:Oracle) and will not necessarily work with any other arbitrary database.

Resolution

Refer to PDN article "How to create custom SQL functions for reporting", to create a custom function alias that will work specifically with Sybase.
