Getting unwanted symbol (Sigma) after applying the custom font

SA-28757

Summary

When using custom fonts in the application, user applies the font  and notices some extra special character for each label.

For example:Text input and Button

Error Messages

Unwanted special character visible on UI for couple of controls. Sigma symbol appears after labels.

Steps to Reproduce

1) Apply the Custom Font in the Skin Rule.
2) Launch User Portal.
3) Observe the unwanted special character for input field labels.

Root Cause

Pega generated element for labels and others has a pseudo after selector of No-Break Space.

In below image, Document Category label has been inspected, which has a Pseudo ::after selector with content as “\00a0”, which is No-Break Space or simply known as nbsp.

However in font rule “No-Break Space” U+00A0 has been mapped to “Sigma” instead of “space”.
Below image has comparison with Arial.ttf.

Resolution

User is suggested to update the font file with the correct mappings.
