IE 9 freezes after MSWord document opened

Summary



After upgrading workstations to Internet Explorer (IE) 9, when the user tried to edit correspondence in MSWord, the Word session is successfully launched and operational, but the browser session freezes. As a result the user is forced to kill the IE process and restart PRPC, losing all changes.

Steps to Reproduce



Edit correspondence in MSWord from any section that implements this standard PRPC feature.

Root Cause



The root cause of this problem is a bug in IE9. 


Resolution



Applying Microsoft security update
KB3008923 resolves the IE9 hang issue.
