Import wizard fails to detect existing tables on JBoss EAP 6

SA-1074

Summary

Import wizard fails to detect existing tables.

Importing archive that contain schema changes on Pega 7.1.6 JBoss server fails to detect when the underlying tables already exist. The Import Wizard accordingly fails as it tries to issue a CREATE TABLE statement for tables that exist, resulting in a Database Error.

Error Messages

There are problems applying changes to the database object pc_history_work SQL: CREATE TABLE PEGDATA.pc_history_work ( [column specifications omitted for brevity] ) ERROR: Database-General Problem executing SQL to update database schema 955 42000 ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Have Pega Instance with Oracle 11g, RHEL 6.5 OS and JBoss EAP 6.
  2. Import RAP which contains schema changes.

Root Cause

The root cause of this problem is a defect in Pegasystems JBOSS EAP documentation.

Resolution

The issue was resolved through the following local change:

Moved the xalan and serializable jar files to Java endorsed directory using following steps:

1) In the jboss log file, search for the line that has java.endorsed.dirs. This should be right at the beginning when jboss start up. It looks something like this.

17:19:01,760 DEBUG [org.jboss.as.config] (MSC service thread 1-2) Configured system properties:

[Standalone] =

file.encoding = UTF-8

.... some other logs ....

java.endorsed.dirs = /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.6.0_45/jre/lib/endorsed

2) Note the directory provided there. If the 'endorsed' directory doesn't exist yet, create one.

3) Shut down JBoss

4) Copy the xalan and serializer jar that is in jboss directory to this directory. For example if xalan is in /opt/srv/jboss/modules/systems/layers/base/org/apache/xalan/main you can do

cp -p /opt/srv/jboss/modules/systems/layers/base/org/apache/xalan/main/*.jar /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.6.0_45/jre/lib/endorsed/

5) Start JBoss
