JAWS does not read harness error section in tab

When using Internet Explorer 11 and JAWS 17, the error section in a harness included in a tab group is not properly read by JAWS. The content of the error section are only read after using tab to navigate to the section, instead of browser focus going there automatically (as it does when using Chrome) and JAWS reading the section contents accordingly.

Not Applicable

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Include a harness in a tab group. (Note: This configuration was available in earlier Pega 7 release.)
  2. Configure the harness to display an error section at "Top of harness."
  3. With Internet Explorer 11 and JAWS 17, create a validation error to be displayed in the harness on portal.

Root Cause

This behavior is caused by a timing issue, which is noticeable when using Internet Explorer 11 and some versions of JAWS. The function, which directs the browser focus to the error section, was executed before the browser had completely rendered the error section.
