JAWS doesnt read out "required" for radiobuttons marked required

Summary



With Job Access With Speech (JAWS) software active, when an accessible user tabs through radio button fields that are configured as 'required', JAWS announcement of  'required' for each radio button are not heard.

Error Messages

Steps to Reproduce



1. Use a radiobutton control on a field and mark it required.
2. Open it in the portal by logging as an accessible user
.
3. Use TAB keys to navigate to the radiobutton fields with JAWS active.


Root Cause



The root cause of this problem is software use/operation error. Use of TAB keys to navigate through radio button fields is not recommended for non-autogenerated controls.
There is very limited accessibility support offered for non-auto generated controls in PRPC versions prior to Pega 7.

Resolution



For JAWS to read radio buttons as required, instead of TAB key – Up/Down arrow keys need to be used while navigating through fields on the form and when arriving at the radio group.
